When people see Affairs Afloat Balloons, they may see me. But when I look at Affairs Afloat Balloons, I see a team.
Behind every finished installation are people planning, preparing, organizing, loading, building, installing—and sometimes returning after the celebration is over to take everything down.
Clients see the finished product. They see the arch framing an entrance, the balloons surrounding a stage, the photo opportunity everyone wants to stand in front of, or the installation that completely transforms the room. What they don’t always see are the people behind it, and that’s exactly how it should be. Our job is to handle the details so our clients can enjoy the moment.
Great Events Are a Team Effort
A professional balloon installation starts long before we arrive at the venue.
- Colors have to be selected.
- Designs have to work within the space.
- Materials have to be prepared.
- Vehicles have to be loaded.
- Timelines have to be coordinated.
And when we arrive, everything has to come together and sometimes within a very small installation window. That’s why our team matters so much. Everyone has a role in creating the final result because at Affairs Afloat Balloons, we’re not simply delivering balloons. We’re helping create an experience.
Passing It On
After more than two decades in this business, one of my favorite things is sharing what I’ve learned with our team. Sometimes that means asking questions.
- Why does that color combination work?
- Why does placement matter?
- Why are we moving something three inches?
- Why does one installation feel balanced while another feels just a little off?
Those may sound like tiny details, but I’ve learned that tiny details make a big difference. Over time, those details become instincts. Then they become expectations, and eventually, they become our standard.
Teaching More Than Balloons
Building a great team isn’t just about teaching someone how to inflate balloons, build an arch, or assemble a garland. It’s teaching them how to walk into a space and see possibilities.
- Where are guests going to enter?
- Where will people naturally gather?
- Where will they take pictures?
- What does the client want people to notice first?
- Where can décor create the biggest impact?
That’s the difference between simply putting balloons in a room and intentionally designing an event. The right design, in the right place, can completely change how a space feels.
Creating the Moment
There’s another lesson I want our team to understand. Our work isn’t really about balloons. It’s about moments:
- A grand opening.
- A graduation.
- A university celebration.
- A corporate milestone.
- A gala.
- A hospital event.
- A school celebration.
- A birthday someone has been planning for months.
Behind every event is someone who cares deeply about how that moment turns out. That’s why the details matter, and that’s why the team matters.
Building What Comes Next
One of the most rewarding parts of being in this business for so many years is realizing that the knowledge I’ve gained doesn’t have to stop with me. I can pass it on. Our team can learn it, improve it and eventually teach it to someone else. That’s how a business grows beyond one person.
And that’s how the standards we’ve spent years developing continue into the future. When you see an Affairs Afloat Balloons installation, you’re seeing the finished result. I see all the people who made it possible.
That’s the real story Behind the Balloons, And we’re not finished yet.
Next: Part Five — We’re Not Finished Yet.
